VEE
I'm someone who has struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I am not blessed with the “skinny gene”. Despite trying numerous diets and weight loss programs, I've always found it difficult to maintain my weight in the long-term.
In the past 10 years my weight has ranged between 68kg- 83kg (this does not include pregnancy weight). I’d like to say I am a confident woman however when it comes to my weight it’s a different story and I have never truly been comfortable with my body and the truth be known it consumes me far too much. This has taken a toll on my confidence and self-esteem.
In 2020, I came across Kim Beach's 100 days of free live workouts online and rediscovered my love for weight training. I signed up for her No Excuses program and saw good results during the 8-week challenge but struggled to maintain my progress afterwards.
VEE IS DOWN 6KG
By 2022, the weight was started to come back on, and my will power and motivation was lacking. I was miserable, tired, unhappy and unkind to myself. I tried restarting the No Excuses program and other challenges, but I just couldn’t find my mojo. As the holiday season approached, I became worried about overeating and drinking too much.
That's when I reached out to a Naturopath, who gave me personalised advice based on my age, gender, and perimenopausal status. She emphasised the importance of weight training and healthy eating habits, which reminded me of Kim Beach's program. Scrolling Facebook as you do - Kim Beach comes up in my feed promoting her new No Excuses 2.0 programme, followed by emails in my inbox. This was music to my ears and was the perfect timing! This was the support I needed going forward.
Early January 2023, I joined the No Excuses 2.0 program and once again pleasantly surprised by the support and resources provided. The online private group was especially helpful, as members shared recipes, workout tips, and words of encouragement.
My starting weight was not pretty, in fact I weighed more than full term pregnancy with my eldest daughter! During the 8-week challenge, I set realistic goals for myself and stuck to the plan as closely as possible. I prioritised exercise, hydration, and healthy eating habits with the hopes to lose 5kg as a start, and to avoid alcohol.
To stay motivated, I had to resist a lot of tempting foods and say no to many social events that would derail my progress. But with the support of the online private group and the encouragement of Kim Beach, I was able to stay on track. I found that hiding the scales was a helpful strategy because it allowed me to focus on my progress and how I felt rather than obsessing over numbers, so I only weighed on day 1, 28 and day 56.
When it was time for the final weigh-in, I felt great both physically and mentally healthier and fitter. I noticed my skin looked healthier, and I slept better. Most importantly, I felt happier with myself and my progress. I consumed zero alcohol, completed 5-6 workouts each week and saw a loss of 6kg and 30cm.
I know that maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is an ongoing journey, but I'm proud of the progress I've made so far. With the support of programs like Kim Beach's No Excuses.
What’s next? With at least 6kg still to shed, 2.0X is about to begin, there are no excuses! I have a role as a bridesmaid in November, and my aim is to be confident on my friend's big day, as well as to fit perfectly into my dress. To keep myself motivated and engaged, I have registered in a few half marathons, hoping to challenge myself and stay active throughout the year.
