The previous 18 months had been tough and I’d slipped back into emotional eating and no exercise.
I knew I wasn’t in the place I wanted to be, but I just didn’t seem to have the energy to do anything about it.

But I was determined that in 2019 things would be different. I had started a new job, things were on the up, so it was time to start looking after me again. I always knew I wanted to sign up to the Kim Beach Life App. I’d successfully completed Kim’s old #noexcuses program in the past and knew the Kim Beach lifestyle worked for me. Apart from losing weight, I always felt so much healthier eating well and training hard. But over time, I’d slipped back into bad habits and I was back where I’d started.
The food principles on the app were the same as Kim’s program I had done previously, so that was easy to get my head around. However, I wanted this to be more than just weight loss. I wanted to be become fit and healthy and I wanted to create life-long habits. So I decided if I was going to succeed at this, I couldn’t miss an exercise session and to make myself accountable, I would post daily in the Facebook support group.
Little did I know when I made this commitment, that this would be the best decision I could ever make.
Because the thing is, the more you put in to something, the more you get out of it.
As I started posting daily and interacting with the other women in the group, I got to know them. Here we all were, women from all over the world, from totally different backgrounds, at different points in our lives, all with the common goal of becoming fitter, healthier versions of ourselves. We understood each other, we celebrated each other’s wins and we propped each other up when we were having a bad day.
And from that, true friendships were formed. I knew that I’d be joining a safe, encouraging space that was all about women supporting women, but I never expected that I’d create friendships that had a life outside of the app group.
I’ve just returned from Kim’s retreat in Bali. A year ago, it would have been inconceivable that I’d travel overseas to spend a week with 85 women, most of whom I’d never met in person. But the community that Kim has built is so special that I knew the trip would be an amazing experience. It was just like catching up with old friends. We already ‘knew’ each other and it was so lovely to be able to sit and chat face to face. The week truly was an awesome experience which pushed me physically, mentally and emotionally, and was some something I’d never have experienced if I hadn’t joined the app.
I have also been blown away by how quickly I came to love my daily workouts. I’m not a naturally sporty person. I was the kid at school who always found excuses to skip PE classes. I watched sports, I didn’t play them.
But I was committed to giving it my all and before I knew it I was starting to look forward to my daily training. Day by day my fitness increased. I loved the weights so pushed myself a bit harder each session and was rewarded by seeing my body shape change quickly. I even started to enjoy running. In the first few weeks, the cardio workouts filled me with fear. Running was something I’d previously never been able to do. So I remember clearly my joy at completing an interval session where I ran for three sets of 10 minutes. Before I knew it, I was able to run 3km straight. And then, after years of trying and failing, in just 2 ½ months on the program, I ran 5km without stopping.
I’ve now been following the app for 6 ½ months. The app isn’t a silver bullet – I still had to commit and put in the hard work. But it gives you all the tools you need for success: flexible meal plans that are easily incorporated into daily life, exercise programs that are updated at each stage and most importantly, the support and encouragement of Kim’s team and all the other amazing ladies in the group.
Some days are harder than others but through it all I have just focused on staying consistent and moving forward. As a result, I’ve lost over 14kg and 18cm off my waist. I am fitter, stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been and can now run 10km straight. Each day I am achieving things I thought were impossible. I have a new-found belief in myself and know that as long as I continue to give my all, anything is possible.
