3 Big Reasons to ‘Never Miss a Monday’

Why is Monday so special when it come to starting something new?

I know it’s the start of the week but why do we mentally have to start things on this particular day, How many times have you said ‘I’m going to start that on Monday’?

I am sure someone with a lot of qualifications in human behaviour will know the real answer but for me Monday is especially important for another reason. A few months ago I saw something on Facebook that caught my eye that was referring to training and it said whatever you do – ‘Never Miss a Monday’!

It dawned on me then how important Monday was in terms of sticking to your training program… here are 3 important reasons why:

1) When you train, your body releases endorphins and this can be an excellent way to combat ‘Mondayitis’, particularly if you have had a busy weekend. This is especially helpful if you can get up and train early on a Monday morning. Monday’s can be tough to get motivated but getting out of bed early and getting into a session will put you in a great mood for the rest of the day.

2) Training for me works on momentum – I feel sluggish if I haven’t trained for a couple days, so making sure you train on Mondays is important to get you mentally set up for the week. Most people I work with have set days for specific workouts, so missing one early can be the thing that throws out your whole weeks plan.

3) Smashing your Monday session will make you feel like you are in control of your week, you are much more likely to stay on track with your nutrition and training if you can tick Monday off with a big session. This is even more important if you have a big social event coming up on the weekend, as you will feel like you have put in the hard years early in the week.

I have a favourite mantra when it comes to training that is ‘Consistency is the key to success and organisation is the key to consistency‘. Most of the people I have worked with who have succeeded with significant body transformations involving either weight loss or lean muscle gain have been incredibly organised throughout the entire process. Being organised is a way of showing yourself you are committed to what you are doing. On the flipside not being organised can lead to giving up very quickly, missing training sessions and generally not paying attention to your nutrition.

Have you trained today yet? Did it help set up your week and make you feel positive about your progress?

Make Monday training a priority in your life to make your fitness journey a continuous routine – one that not only benefits you and your body but those around you too.
