Generally if you are trying to be mindful of your waist line then dairy is one thing that realistically you should try to avoid. In saying this dairy that is high in protein e.g. low fat cottage cheese, goats cheese or greek yoghurt to name a few are allowed and provides some variety to your eating.
The source of dairy I have fallen in love with is Chobani Vanilla Greek Yoghurt not only does it taste great it can be used on savory or sweet dishes and has many health benefits. Some of which are it is low in sugar, it is high in protein which is great for keeping your fuller for longer, it is great at aiding digestion and is a good source of calcium. You will find many of the ‘diet’ yoghurts at the supermarket are low in fat but to compensate are full of sugar to make them taste good whereas greek yoghurt can easily be sweetened with berries or sprinkled with cinnamon to add flavour. Greek yoghurt is also higher in protein then other yoghurts on the shelf which benefits our bodies in keeping our blood sugar levels even and keeping our cravings at bay especially if you add a little cinnamon to it.
Lately this has been my breakfast and I find not only is it delicious it gives me that satisfied feeling afterwards. Here is the breakdown:
1/2 cup of rolled oats (rinsed)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon flaxmeal
1 teaspoon psyllium husks
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 dessertspoon of vanilla chobani greek yoghurt
Mix all together in a bowl and enjoy with a big glass of lemon water and a cup of black coffee – mornings couldn’t get any better 🙂
I love food and I eat a lot so to change from almond milk or hot water on my oats to greek yoghurt has really hit the spot in regards to satisfying my hunger. Give it a try and let me know what you think?
