“It was in a while ago that I first came across Kim Beach #Noexcuses. I was scrolling through Facebook and it popped up that one of my friends had “liked” the Kim Beach page. I was overweight and knew that I needed to do something about it so I thought I would have a look. After checking out the page I decided that the program seemed easy enough to follow and not too expensive so I thought I would give it a go.
I had suffered from a bit of depression and my weight had got up to as high as 84kg. I had lost a few kilos on my own but was really unhappy being the weight I was. I ended up completing 2 rounds of No Excuses, focusing mainly on the eating, and I said goodbye to13 ½ kg. I was thrilled! I was getting so many compliments and I knew that I looked a lot better. However, I hadn’t really changed, not on the inside, not mentally. I saw the program as a means to an ends, a quick fix.
Last year I decided to do another round of #Noexcuses, signing up for the Facebook support rather than try to do it on my own. The Facebook group is such a fantastic support and I knew I would need this to help me really change. This time I followed both the food and the training part. It didn’t take long and I was starting to see and feel real results. My whole attitude towards training was changing. School started again and I actually committed to getting up at 5:30am, in the pitch black, to do my training before school (I am a teacher). The more I continued with the program, the fitter I was feeling. When I couldn’t get my training in I really missed it! I was becoming addicted to training! This was something that I always wanted to feel but didn’t think that I, Heather Cheesman, would ever get to.
Well, fast forward to now and I am feeling fantastic! I can now run for over 10 minutes, do 4 sets of 10 push ups on my toes, can lift heavy weights and run up and down stairs. I haven’t felt this fit since I was 13! I believe that doing the training as well as the food has helped me change mentally as well as physically. I have a whole new self-concept and identity. I now see myself as a fit and healthy person who may sometimes have some treats.
I have lost 16kg in total and now have muscles that I didn’t ever think were possible. The Facebook group was invaluable. It is like having your own private cheer squad! The Beachfit ladies were so helpful and other ladies in the group are so inspiring. My advice? If you are thinking about it, just do it! What have you got to lose, other than weight?
